Operation: Mariposa - Chapter 09

This chapter actually didn't take too long to write once I sat myself down to actually do it. Action chapters rarely take a long time. But, I got distracted by InFamous, and by the NHL Playoffs. I'm a Pittsburgh fan, so the playoffs have been pretty good for me so far. In my heart, I'm a Toronto fan first and foremost since that's where I'm originally from, but when you're a Toronto fan, you almost need to have another team to cheer for since the Leafs never make the playoffs, or are out in the first round.

InFamous is also pretty darn fun. I haven't had as much time as I would like to put into it, what with work and all. I'm in the final District, and went the Hero route. I totally thought I'd go the Infamous route first, but just couldn't bring myself to be a dick on the first mission. Oh well, second playthrough. I also picked up the Korean import of Afrika, which is so cute and relaxing and fun. Then, of course a couple weeks later I found out that they're finally going to bring it over to North America. D'oh. E3 also brought up a bunch of games that I can't wait to get. At the top of that list are Heavy Rain, Uncharted 2, Bioshock 2 and of course, Final Fantasy XIII. Fat Princess is also going to kick a ton of ass.

Recently I also got this awesome custom yarn from GothSocks. The colourway is named Auriga, and of course, its colours that have to do with my fave self-mutilating baddie. <3 A self-striping sock yarn with rows of black mixing with rows that harken Auriga's teal robes, and gold nails and jewellery.

I've also got mental images of custom colourways named Diamondeyes and Fomalhaut that I'm thinking of maybe ordering someday. Now, to find a sock pattern fit for an Electra Prince.

Operation: Mariposa - Chapter 08

New chapter. This one actually came out pretty fast by my recent standards. I find action chapters usually do get written faster.

A few weeks ago, I got a new cat. I technically do have a cat, but he lives with my parents. When I moved into my current apartment, it seemed really cruel to take Stormshadow away from a house with a big yard, and his buddy Vincent (our other cat), and then coop him up in a third floor one-bedroom apartment where he would have to be inside all the time. So, I got a new kitty friend from the SPCA. She's a tuxedo cat, about a year old, and her name is Opera.

I also recently got the Final Fantasy XIII demo. I have no fuggin' clue what's going on, since I don't read or speak Japanese, but the gameplay was pretty fun, and it looks pretty damn incredible. Sazh's chicobo is the cutest thing EVAR. I hope it's in lots of scenes. And, I think I'm going to fall in love hard with Lightning. Maybe there will be some fanfic in the future. And, it also means I got that other disc that just happened to come with the demo. Advent Children Complete. It was actually much better than the original version. It just felt more cohesive, and well... complete. Still needed more Yuffie, though.

Operation: Mariposa - Chapter 07

Wow, I actually updated this! I know it's been a long time, but this chapter seemed to come at a time where my social life was getting pretty busy, and it's also pretty fucking long. I almost considered breaking it up into two chapters. This chapter, I consider, is the gateway chapter between the two halves of this story.

Been playing Resident Evil 5. I got it for the PS3, and have been having a blast with it. Most people seem to prefer RE4, but I like 5 better. REmake on Gamecube is still my favourite, but I loved 5. I think I loved the lack of cheese a lot. It was pretty serious and restrained, at least in terms of voice acting and the script itself. Well... as serious and restrained as you can be when you're talking about the subject matter at hand. I also think there's a ton of replay value, so can see myself firing it up to do emblem runs, getting ranks on the chapters, and playing the hell out of Mercenaries.

I know, I know. I'm a bad fanfic writer and haven't even updated this thing in a while. I just haven't really felt the writing groove lately. Stuff I have been doing rather than writing: Making scarves for friends who requested them and paid for them, so that immediately supercedes writing. I've also been working, and lately after work, I barely have enough energy to exercise, let alone sit in front of the computer and think. I also just finished doing my taxes, which most people think is a complete chore, but I actually quite enjoy. If I didn't enjoy doing taxes, I think accounting would be the wrong field for me. I've also been playing a lot of Little Big Planet, which I'm completely in love with. It gives me a Super Mario World vibe, just from the platforming, and the well-crafted levels. I even knit my own Sackboy, because I think he's so cute and wanted one for my own. The other day, I also downloaded Flower, which is incredible, relaxing, beautiful and unique. There really aren't words to describe how it feels to play it, since it's far more just a soulful, quiet voyage.

It's not to say that I haven't been writing at all, though. I do have ten pages or so of the current chapter. I'm not sure if that's halfway or not, since there's a lot of information happening in this section.

Operation: Mariposa - Chapter Six

New Chapter. Once I got done with my scads of Christmas knitting, I was able to sit down and finally get this chapter out. Kind of felt like a renaissance of sorts when I was writing this, all dialog and characters spiralling out of emotional control. Reminded me of when I was writing my earliest fic, Somewhat Damaged. The next chapter should be REALLY interesting, and I'm looking forward to writing it.

Happy New Year everyone. I never do anything for New Years. I don't drink very often at all, unless it's a special occassion, so I never have the desire to get shitfaced, and I was in bed before midnight. Maybe didn't fall asleep until after because I was reading or something. I always kind of figure that it's going to be 2009 when I wake up anyway, so it doesn't really matter what time it is when I go to sleep. My Christmas was low-key and quiet, which is fine with me. I got a cute red coffee pot that I've used muchly, Wall-E on blu-ray, Free-Range Knitter by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, a couple of Barbies and some sheets. Hope everyone else had a great holiday.

Oh dear God, I am a baaaaadddd blogger. And, bad at updating things I'm currently writing. But, I do have a legitimate excuse!

When you are someone who does a lot of crafts, and the a holiday comes around, you hit a bit of a time crunch. When that holiday is Christmas, and it doesn't become one gift for a birthday or Mother's Day or somesuch, that time crunch becomes something akin to panic-inducing Time Compression. It really makes me want to question my desire to get a full-forearm tattoo of Ultimecia's Dissidia artwork, because why would I want to immortalize a woman who wants the exact time/space phenomenon that is melting my brain, one purl stitch at a time?!

At first it just became a handful of things to send to Sarah and Chris (sister and her bf). I kind of underestimated the timing, since there were a couple pairs of socks for a 6'2 man... men that height have big feet. And socks have many, many small stitches. Then, a few more items kept popping up on the list, junctioning themselves onto my free time. So, I've been sitting on the couch with every spare moment of free time that I have, knitting my fingers into early rheumatoid arthritis. But, I'm on the last thing now, so I was actually successful. Wheee! But, I shouldn't celebrate too soon. Knitting karma can be ugly and wind up with me stabbing forks in my eyes. Mittens are an easy project, but a million things can go wrong before I actually bind off the last of the stitches.

So, the point? It means I've neglected working on Mariposa (or anything else, really) since Christmas was kind of coming, and the knitting had to be done by then, whereas Mariposa really could wait. But, that's not to say I haven't worked on it at all. I've picked away a paragraph or two at a time, so now I'm about halfway through a chapter. I have vacation from work until January, which is a million billion times better than Christmas with no hyperbole whatsoever! So, I should be able to get some quality time in with the fic.

Oh, and I also fleshed out some more of my planning for a fic that takes place in the vague Durai-ish area, maybe an ocean or so away, that isn't the Black Chapel.

Also, happy holidays to everyone!

Operation: Mariposa - Chapter 05

New chapter!

In terms of my own life, I've applied to go back to school. I don't want to be stuck at my job forever, and it's starting to get to be too late. I'm 28, and if I wait any longer, I'll wind up being trapped. So, I applied to get into the accounting program at the local college, and now I'm just waiting to hear back. I'm not too worried about getting accepted, since when I talked to the admissions head just to get an outlook on the program itself, he said I'd be in no problem, and applying would pretty much be a formality.

This chapter is where you start to get to see what the bigger picture of this fic is.

And, Thanksgiving dinner today, woo!

Been a while, of course. I'm a horrible updater, as anyone knows. My trip to see my sister went awesome. I really didn't want to come back. Got to meet her new boyfriend, and he was really awesome. He's also a tattoo artist, so I got some new work done. This is based on a Boris Vallejo image:

Also got to do some things like go to the zoo and the science center and all kinds of educational fun stuff. As far as writing goes, Chapter 4 of Mariposa is coming along nicely. The larger picture is going to start making itself seen in Chapter 4, so look forward to that.

I kept meaning to post this stuff when it, you know, actually happened, but as you may know if you stalk me on this LJ (like the Best Stalker in the World, whom I love dearly, and who knows who she is!), you know that I'm really horrible at keeping this thing updated.

The Provincial Exhibition was recently in town, and I hadn't been in years, because I grew out of the whole midway scene. And, this year I also wasn't planning to go, but when my mother mentioned that they were having a reptile show where you could pet alligators and crocodiles, I was a vapor cloud! Obviously, they were only small, because it would be hard to control and transport large crocs! Crikey!! Their skin is surprisingly soft, except for their backs, which are like armour.

For good measure, here's a couple cute pictures of my cats:

As far as the writing thing goes, I'm actually nearing completion of Chapter Three! And, in a couple weeks, I'm going to visit my sister, and see some cool stuff, so I'll have some pictures then. Maybe even some pictures of me getting more tattoos. yay!

I'm currently writing this from the computer at my parents house. There was a power outage here on Monday, and the surge fried my stupid power supply, so I have to wait to get my computer back while it's being repaired. Honestly, I don't mind not having the internet that much. I mean, I can check some sites on my PS3, though it seems to not want to show Hotmail, even when I allow cookies, but whatever. The really sucky part is not being able to work on Operation: Mariposa. I feel kind of antsy about it. :( I keep having all these thoughts that I really want to get down, and I can write them on paper, but I'm really a keyboard writer more than I am a pen and paper one.

But, no computer has given me lots of time to... be sick! I had a really, really bad cold last week that is still kind of with me in the form of a stuffed up right ear, and a nagging cough that won't go away. I wound up having to leave work early one day last week because the pressure in my ear was so bad that I was in complete agony. Which means that I didn't get to play any more Metal Gear Solid 4 because I was just too sick. And, now that the Olympics are on, I'm watching that more than I am playing games. But, it is giving me more time for knitting, so there's always an upside.

I'll give an update post whenever I'm back on my own computer, and finally able to work on Mariposa again. And, I'm glad that people seem so excited that I went back to Seifer/Squall. I appreciate all the positive comments. Thank you!

Operation: Mariposa - Chapter 02

New chapter. It would have been posted sooner, except that work's been pretty insane this past month. I've had to work every weekend, plus had to stay back a few nights, too. The money's good, but I'd just rather have the day off, especially because I just got a new HD-TV and a PS3, and I haven't really had time to enjoy them. I sold my 360 to a good friend (and all the games) to get the funds for the PS3. I figured that all the games I really liked on 360 besides DOAX2 and Rumble Roses XX were also on the PS3, but 360 didn't have Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy Versus XIII (yes, I know regular XIII is now on 360 too, but I'd rather have one or two blu-ray discs instead of fifteen dual layer DVD discs.) And, I'm honestly not going to miss DOAX2 or RRXX enough that I regret it.

Since I now have a PS3, I popped my blu-ray cherry and my first watching was the series Planet Earth. Since I'm a huge zoology and nature buff, my jaw was dropped pretty much the entire time watching it. I think my two favourite shots were: 1. The Boreal Forest in winter, where the snow was glittering like diamonds. Just breathtaking. And 2. The slowed up shot of a Great White leaping out of the water to catch a seal, meters above the water's surface. I absoloutely love Great Whites, and one of my big 'want to do before I die' wishes is to go cage diving so I can be up close with them.

As far as actual gaming goes, I've only really played Metal Gear Solid 4, which is just whoa. I haven't had time to play in the last few days, so I'm only to the beginning of Act III, but Act II was pretty damn fucking awesome. Also rife with Vamp/Raiden slash. Vampire/Cyborg sex. Sheesh, there's a kink.

Oh, and Dark Knight? OMFGSPOOGE. Everything about that movie is perfect, perfect, perfect. I love how I went both times, the theatre was packed, and it was deathly silent *both* times. That's almost unheard of for the moviegoing public around here. I'll probably go see it a few more times. I just can't resist.

New fic, Chapter 1! I'm going back to the pairing that started it all, Seifer/Squall.

Let's see what's been going on with me:

Work said we'd be having a slowdown, and then it only lasted for one week. @_@

I got a new boyfriend. Well, as far as I can consider a budgie to be a potential mate. His name is Ziggy (Stardust), and he's aqua-chested. He's only 5 months old, so he'll get bigger than what he is now. He's kind of still scared of my hand, but he loves looking in the mirror and talking to the 'other' budgie. He seems to be the noisiest when I'm on my exercise bike for some reason.

And, on the fic front, a new chapter of a new story should be coming along very shortly. Hopefully this weekend, I'll be able to sit down and actually get something done on it.

I've started picking away at a new fic! Still very much early on in Chapter One, but I'm getting there! I won't say any more than that, or what it's about, so it can maybe be a surprise. I'm taking my time with it, because I've been pretty obsessed with playing with my new PSP, and Crisis Core and Lumines II. I also picked up the remake of Final Fantasy Tactics, which I will play soon. I've also started playing Grand Theft Auto IV, so there's also that taking up my time. I'm not really very good at Lumines II right now, but I'm getting better. Black Tambourine is such a good song, but it's skin is verrry distracting.

I thought of a pairing that I'd maybe like to write a fic about, but it will have to get in line because I have a bunch of other fics, and am a completely pokey writer right now. Vaan/Larsa. I could probably slash Larsa with anyone, though. I just lurve him.

And, lately I've been watching Sense and Sensibility ad nauseum, which isn't surprising, since most people who know me know of my Pride and Prejudice obsession. I love how in it, House is married to Professor Umbridge. That sounds like some kind of crazy fanfic in the works. :p

The Wind Spires: Chapter Ten - The Sanguine Curse

The Wind Spires: Epilogue - The Black Chapel (Excerpt)

Done. Done as dinner. Well, not with Durai, though. As you can see from the Epilogue, there will be other stories from there. And, not just The Black Chapel, either. But, I don't know if that's going to be the next thing I'll work on. Maybe an FFVIII fic, or I have wanted to revamp the Christie/Helena fic I started way back when, and actually... you know, finish it.

So, I almost just got my fucking arm ripped off by a Doberman while walking home from work. I had to practically fling myself into the road to avoid getting bitten (and of course a car was coming, so either death by dog, or death by car). I had to wind up crossing the fucking street, since I guess the town property sidewalk also belongs to the owner of this dog. It's one of the very, very rare moments where I wish I'd had my cell phone on me, so I could have called animal control. I'm of the school that if you can't be smart enough to tie your bad-tempered dog up when you let it out at night, you don't deserve to have a dog.

I've been taking practice mechanical aptitude tests in preparation for my real one coming up sometime in the near future. I haven't had to actually study for anything in a really long time, and I certainly haven't had to find the area of a circle in a really long time. If I hadn't studied for the test, I would have completely failed when I go to do the probable section on levers and pulleys, and if something is a certain distance away from the fulcrum, how far away should this lighter thing be away from it to make it balanced. But, I completely kick ass on all the gear rotation questions that I come across.

And, no... I don't need another doll obsession, but lately I've been *really*, and I mean *REALLY* wanting to buy one or more Fashion Royalty dolls. But, they're so fucking expensive, even just for the basic dolls that come with either lingerie or some bare bones outfit. At first, it was going to go along the same vein as all my other dolls, in that they're female only (my doll collection is much like my life - man free. :P). But, then I was on fashionroyalty.com, reading the information about the characters, and I immediately wanted to get Pierre and Francisco because they're so obviously gay and in love with each other. I swear, my manlove love is a compulsion. I'm trying to avoid buying a bunch of them. I told myself that I would maybe just get one, but now I'm having a really hard time deciding.

I applied for a new job at work on Friday. It's not up until April 3rd, and I'll have to write a Mechanical Aptitude test, but if I do well, I very well could get the job. It all depends on how many other people applied and how well they do on the test, too. It's one of the few jobs in the place that doesn't award simply by seniority. So, here's hoping.

Lately I've been getting back into Lost. I only watched the first season fully, and got disinterested in Season 2, and didn't even bother watching Season 3. But, I decided to give Season 4 a whirl when it premiered, and I'm hooked again, though now I'm remembering what I dislike about Lost (and TV in general): the stupid hiatuses. I don't know why they can't just show all the episodes in a row, and leave a longer break between seasons. I know it's because of trying to get eps into sweeps periods, but these long mid-season breaks just get you right out of the mood. All shows seem to do this now, instead of just having a couple weeks in a row here and there of repeats. I also finally watched the Sailor Stars season of Sailor Moon, what... 10 years after I first started really liking the show, way back in high school. It's an awesome season, especially compared to the looooonnnnngggg filler that was Super S. But, I never really warmed up to the Starlights, which kind of sucked because they were in all the episodes so much. It pretty much left the estabished senshi (outside of Usagi) to pop in and make comments, and *maybe* fight once in a while. Now I might have to go back and watch the older episodes again, or re-watch Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. I recently watched the Wedding Special episode, and at first felt really discombobulated by the Power Rangers wigs and costumes and fight choreography. I guess it takes a little bit to just kind of ignore that stuff and get into the story between the characters. I like that part so much better than the anime because all the girls are awesome (Makoto... love!), and aren't all boy crazy and giggly.

Getting there on the next chapter of The Wind Spires. And, I still haven't beat Lost Odyssey. I actually haven't played it in a while. I haven't knit in a while, either. I don't have any time, but I don't know what I'm doing that's taking up so much of this time that I don't have.
